The Porsche 911 is quite possibly the most versatile sports car ever produced. Primarily known for its track prowess, the 911 finds its station in many different venues. From bombing down dirt roads, to auto-x events, or spirited driving through the mountains, the 911 can do it all. Sadly, most are relegated to bumper-to-bumper daily commutes. The car before you belongs to Brock Keen, he too appreciates the diversity that is the 911. That’s why he owns a Porsche 911 with a roof top tent.

This one’s a bit of an odd beast. The team at Proffitt’s Resurrection Land Cruisers went in deep with this build. It began life as a 1993 Toyota FZJ80 Landcruiser, but has since been fitted with the cab from a 79-Series Landcruiser and stretched twenty inches. The factory drive train was also ditched in favor of a Cummins R2.8 crate engine and part time 4WD H55F 5-speed transmission. The entire vehicle has been extensively reworked to become a very unique, well equipped overland rig.

There are few engines as iconic (at least in the states) as the venerable 7.3L Powerstroke V8. It’s from an era before temperamental DEF systems, has plenty of torque and is extremely reliable. The only way to get this big engine is through one of Ford’s Super Duty platforms such as the F250 pictured here.

I first encountered Kelly Moss Road and Race at a PCA event in Pooler, Georgia. I was still working for Autometrics Motorsports at the time and we were sharing track time with a number of other cars. I was in still in my twenties, bright eyed and full of wonder. When the guys and I heard that Kelly Moss had brought a fully carbon fiber chassis, Porsche 996 RSR with an unrestricted engine, the temptation was too much to ignore. We immediately ran over to check it out.

I finished the majority of the build in May 2019 when I drove it up to Alaska for work. Fast forward a few months to September and we were finally ready to start our adventures. We started off by exploring Alaska before heading down south. We’ve been exploring since then and we still have a few months left before it's time to head back to work.

The very first step -after truck selection- is designing the camper body and selecting the materials and components that will encompass the entire build.

The International Harvester Scout is one of the most iconic off road vehicles in US history. Aside from the early Ford Bronco, very few classic ‘SUVs’ are as recognizable and loved. With a removable hardtop and folding windshield, the Scout had many of the quirks found in the Jeep Willy’s -albeit a spot more comfortable, depending on who you ask of course.

This 1989 Toyota Landcruiser is located in Bozeman, Montana. It's a right hand drive import with a 12HT turbo diesel engine. It's equipped with a PTO winch that was recently serviced. The current mileage is listed at 194,000. 

This camper was built by Tyler Thomson and Erin Sofinowski on a budget of $6000. The couple had previously used a more common truck cap with drawer system and futon mattress setup. This experience guided them as they built Adventure Truck 2.0. 

This 2001 Toyota Tacoma SR5 is located in Vacaville, CA. It is a 4WD model with solid front axle swap. A set of 17" Raceline beadlock wheels with 35" Nitto mud terrains are suspended by 12" Fox remote reservoir shock absorbers. The bed is covered by a Snugtop soft camper shell with custom LED lights, and has a large custom center drawer.

This procedure is fairly straight forward and, to my knowledge, will work with all Chrysler products dating back as far as the 1980's -the oldest models require counting the duration and number of flashes produced by the CEL, then cross referencing them to a DTC list.

Toyota Land Cruiser Pickups are not readily available to American Citizens. This is mainly because they're simple, reliable design could never meet the emissions requirements of vehicles sold in the United States. New Land Cruiser pickups are harder to acquire still. However, after years in foreign nations around the world witnessing first-hand what these vehicles are capable of, I knew I had to have one.

I’m being hit from every side by a refreshingly cold wind as I drive my delightful 1942 Willys MB up the windy roads in the Spiti Valley, one of the most sensational places in the Indian Himalayas. It’s almost as if I’m in a dream.

Ann Brampton has assembled a very well thought out rig for overlanding. Currently a resident of Costa Rica, the 48 year old mother has trotted the globe several times before settling into Central America. Spending her time exploring solo is both exhilarating and stressful.

We are now 5 months into our 2.5 year overland expedition, covering 350,000km through 70 countries, over 6 continents. We started in -30C, deep within the arctic of Alaska. Since then we have crossed 45C deserts, to lush rainforests, to Caribbean beaches. We now sit in the mountains of Peru, aiming to reach the south of Argentina by the end of this year.

Many of us dream of overlanding in far off places. Unfortunately, the constraints of home and work often keep this dream at arms length. The time needed to drive a rig to South America is likely the biggest barrier to taking the plunge.

The refuge and herd date back to 1859 when the Maxwell family drove a small herd of bison onto land surrounding their homestead. The Maxwell family wanted to preserve a piece of the prairie with a roaming herd for future generations. In the mid 1900s the family donated 2,500 acres to the state of Kansas. The herd is kept between 50 to 125 with the surplus bison being auctioned off each fall.

There are literally hundreds of millions of unexploded ordnance lying in wait in civilian territory throughout the world. This ordnance has been building up from as far back as the American Civil War. One can only imagine the sheer number of these silent killers buried in shallow graves beneath the Earth’s surface, waiting to be struck during construction, or stepped on by children.

Dan Grec is no stranger to adventure. In 2009, he drove a stock Jeep Wrangler TJ 50,000 miles from Calgary to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. From there, he headed south and didn't stop until reaching Tierra Del Fuego, Argentina nearly two years later. Today, Dan is working his way around the entire African continent.

I recently had the opportunity to help my close friend John install his new J30 Ursa Minor Camper onto his Jeep. Normally I don’t associate an opportunity with heavy lifting, but I’ve long been curious about the J30 camper.
