This has to be the maddest Chinook we’ve ever seen. It looks like it could pull off some sick wheelies!

The very first step -after truck selection- is designing the camper body and selecting the materials and components that will encompass the entire build.

The Pinzgauer pictured here is a 1975, according to the advertisement, and appears to be in rare condition. The roof mounted tent and umbrella are a bit strange, but who am I to judge?

The International Harvester Scout is one of the most iconic off road vehicles in US history. Aside from the early Ford Bronco, very few classic ‘SUVs’ are as recognizable and loved. With a removable hardtop and folding windshield, the Scout had many of the quirks found in the Jeep Willy’s -albeit a spot more comfortable, depending on who you ask of course.

This 1989 Toyota Landcruiser is located in Bozeman, Montana. It's a right hand drive import with a 12HT turbo diesel engine. It's equipped with a PTO winch that was recently serviced. The current mileage is listed at 194,000. 

This camper was built by Tyler Thomson and Erin Sofinowski on a budget of $6000. The couple had previously used a more common truck cap with drawer system and futon mattress setup. This experience guided them as they built Adventure Truck 2.0. 

This 2001 Toyota Tacoma SR5 is located in Vacaville, CA. It is a 4WD model with solid front axle swap. A set of 17" Raceline beadlock wheels with 35" Nitto mud terrains are suspended by 12" Fox remote reservoir shock absorbers. The bed is covered by a Snugtop soft camper shell with custom LED lights, and has a large custom center drawer.

This procedure is fairly straight forward and, to my knowledge, will work with all Chrysler products dating back as far as the 1980's -the oldest models require counting the duration and number of flashes produced by the CEL, then cross referencing them to a DTC list.

Toyota Land Cruiser Pickups are not readily available to American Citizens. This is mainly because they're simple, reliable design could never meet the emissions requirements of vehicles sold in the United States. New Land Cruiser pickups are harder to acquire still. However, after years in foreign nations around the world witnessing first-hand what these vehicles are capable of, I knew I had to have one.

While perusing Instagram, I came across this absolute weapon of a Toyota Tacoma. Not only is this truck something that we'd love to build ourselves, it's for sale. No need to get your hands dirty. Just arrive with a check and drive away with this turnkey beast.

I wanted something to take my family camping and carry all my toys. I wanted to be sufficient for off the grid camping and not stress about my bikes disappearing or being damaged in transit.

From the start of this build, I knew I would need a dual battery system. For this, I selected a Genesis Dual Battery kit with Dual Odyssey Group 34 PC1500's. This would provide more than enough power to handle the auxiliary lights, inverter and a fridge. Thanks to Genesis' YouTube video, installation went smoothly.

Camping beyond the confines of a traditional campground requires lugging every item that you will need to support yourself for days or even weeks at a time. Of course, the duration of the trip will dictate which items need to come, but all too often many find themselves….
